Personalizing Recognition

While promoting your team as a whole is a commendable act for any business owner or member of the management staff, acknowledging individual accomplishments can go a long way. Studies show that people in general want to be recognize individually for a job well done, especially in a corporate settings where there may be dozens of other employees working on the same project.

This makes people feel good about themselves. Having your peers know you're good at something is great, but having your boss say so out loud for everyone to hear is something even better. It's a certified morale booster, and when you want to drive your employee to his full potential, nothing beats boosting his morale (and stroking his ego from time to time).

There are many ways with which you can personalize recognition. As one of the tips on motivating employees, you can pay your golden employee a pleasure call in which you only congratulate him on his performance and talk about nothing else. You can also put up a bulleting board and post positive comments on an employee's greatly appreciated efforts

Highlighting the names of your employees who have shown promise in recent months or weeks can make them important. Make your top employee happier by assigning him to an exciting new project where he can develop his skills more and further widen his experience. Giving employees new venues for learning, performing, and growing as significant members of the company is a highly recommended form of personal recognition.
